History of WUM

 

 

WUM has its roots in the Government College for Women, Multan, which was founded in 1950 as a premier institution for women’s education in southern Punjab. The college offered intermediate, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs in arts, science, and commerce. It also had a distinguished faculty and alumni who contributed to various fields of the society. 

In 2010, the Punjab Assembly passed an act to transform the college into a university for women, with the aim of promoting higher education and research among female students in the region.

The act also provided for the establishment of another campus at Mattital Road, Multan. The transition took place in 2012 and, since then, the university has expanded its academic programs and facilities to cater to the needs and aspirations of its students.
