The dues were paid by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to the Small Dam Organisation, to receive two million gallons per day (mgd). This step plays a major role in overcoming the shortage of water witnessed in Islamabad.

With only three sources of water, including Simly Dam, Khanpur Dam and tube wells, the federal capital reportedly receives between 65 to 70 mgd of water against a total need of 220 mgd.
