Traders’ association announces shutter down strike

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The traders’ association has announced a four-day shutter down strike after Eid-ul-Azha to protest against the mandatory requirement of providing CNIC for sale and purchase of goods.

All Pakistan Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajiran (APAT) Central General Secretary Naeem Mir informed about the four-day strike by the closing of businesses on August 15-16, followed by a strike from August 26-27. To further protest if the demands are not fulfilled, a collective decision by the APAT has come forward to permanently close businesses from Muharram 11 after Ashura holidays.

The traders in Faisalabad also announced strike in August against the government policies to provide CNIC for sale and purchase.

In Islamabad, APAT President Ajmal Baloch, informed in a separate press briefing about the declining purchasing power of ordinary citizens as sales have dropped down by around 38%

In Karachi, various trade bodies have come forward to support Anjuman-e-Tajiran’s call for a country-wide shutter down strike

Chairman All Karachi Tajir Itehad Atiq Mir has informed that a press conference in the current week will be set up to inform of the decision on joining the strike call.
