Islamabad: While heading a three-judge bench hearing a suo motu case, Justice Umar Ata Bandial has warned of a strict action if provincial governments fail to comply to come up with draft laws aimed at the conservation of water resources through similar policies.
From the former hearing on April 30, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor assured the court on devising a uniform law for implementation across the country by taking provinces, secretaries and all stakeholders on board.
SC took up this suo motu case regarding the sale of bottled water by companies without payment of charges and quality checks.
In regards to proposing committee members for monitoring the usage of underground water, the Sindh government has nominated Additional Advocate General Mohammad Rafiq Rajourvi as its head representative while Secretary of Excise and Taxation Syed Zafar Ali and Additional Advocate General Zahid Yousaf will represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Assistant Advocate General Mohammad Farid Dogar from Balochistan, Mohammad Ayaz Khan from Swat, Advocate General Barrister Qasim Ali Chowhan fpr Punjab and Prosecutor Saeed Ahmed Waseer will represent Islamabad Capital Territory.
Justice Bandial has urged all parties to come up with suggestions for a way forward for water conservation.
