KARACHI: To inhibit the transmission of COVID-19 and treat patients in the provincial capital, the Sindh Health Department has announced to increase hospitals’ capacity.
Under this plan, 200 beds will be added at the Nipa Hospital. Out of these, 140 will be reserved for the High Dependency Unit and the remaining for the Intensive Care Unit, informed Media Coordinator for the Sindh Health and Population Welfare Department Meeran Yousuf.
The Sindh government has approved the addition of 150 beds in the HDU of the Civil Hospital, whereas 55 beds will be added to Lyari General Hospital over the period of next week.
In addition, 50 beds will be added at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar isolation facility, 38 beds at Dow University Hospital, Ojha Campus in the upcoming 10 days.
Prior to this, after visiting the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Chief Minister Sindh issued Rs1.2 billion for the competition of construction work and procure medical equipment for the facility, in order to facilitate the citizens.
The facility will be functional within a month.
While taking various actions to curb the spread of COVID-19, the government has also advised people to take safety precautions and follow the SOPs.
