The British in India established the first primary school in Hunza in 1913. On the other hand, the contribution of Aga Khan III, Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah, and then Mirs of Hunza state put emphasis on education in Hunza, therefore transforming the educational landscape of Hunza.

Diamond Jubilee Middle School, Hunza

 

 

Diamond Jubilee High School is one of the oldest schools in Gilgit-Baltistan, having opened as a primary school in 1946. It became a middle school in 1978, then a high school in 1988. This school has branches all over Gilgit and Hunza region.

The school teaches students from pre-primary to high school in English medium. Pre-Primary III through Grade VIII has been set up there for both boys and girls since that time.

About 300 students attend the school every year, and its 14 teaching staff receive training monthly. It is a project of the Aga Khan Development Network. The school session begins in April, and new enrollment starts from December to April.

The school has an extensive sports field as well as a multi-purpose hall.

 

Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Hunza
