RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced its decision to make Murree Road a signal-free corridor by constructing an underpass at Liaquat Bagh.
This move is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve the overall flow of traffic in the area.
In 2017, the RDA spent over Rs11 million on a feasibility study to determine whether a flyover or an underpass should be built. However, after the consultant Nespak provided additional suggestions, the former PTI government shelved the project in 2018.
Nonetheless, the RDA has now submitted a new plan to the Punjab government, which includes building an underpass on the Saddar to Faizabad road and a link road for Liaquat Road towards Fawara Chowk.
The RDA director general stated that the underpass would be a major relief for traffic congestion at Liaquat Bagh Chowk and would be included in the new annual development program of the Punjab government.
The project is expected to provide a significant benefit to the people of Rawalpindi by reducing traffic congestion and improving travel time along Murree Road.
