RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has forwarded its annual budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 of Rs2.287 billion to the government of Punjab for authorisation.
The annual budget was reviewed by a number of committees before being finalised to be sent to the provincial government. A finance sub-committee consisting of the Planning and Development Department, Urban Development, Housing, and Finance Department was set up under the Chairmanship of RDA DG Tahir Zafar Abbasi.
The budget also includes the Punjab government’s development schemes that will provide Rs49,506 million for infrastructure growth within the city.
A few ongoing development schemes that have been incorporated into the annual budget include the construction of Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) from Banth to Thalian totalling up to Rs12,000 million and the provision of street lights within Chaklala Cantonment Board Rawalpindi with an allocation of Rs.10 million.
The RDA spokesperson also informed that Rs.20 million have been issued for the construction of the Nullah Leh Expressway and Flood Channel, from Katarian to Ammar Chowk. This allocation also comes under the Punjab government’s annual development programme.
Rs.300 million each have been set aside for the remodelling of Kutcherry Chowk and Defence Chowk Rawalpindi. RDA hopes to improve the city’s quality of life with these new infrastructure projects.
