RAWALPINDI: While chairing a meeting of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Chairman RDA Tariq Mehmood Murtaza discussed various uplift projects to highlight the heritage sites of the city.
The discussed projects include improved conditions and traffic system in Raja Bazar, urban regeneration of Sarafa and Bhabra Bazaar, and conservation of Sujan Singh Haveli.
The projects are aimed at increasing the scope of tourism through improved conditions, promotion of sustainable urban mobility, and employment generation for the locals, which, in turn, boost the economy. All these projects were discussed with their scope and stakeholders were taken on board to comment on the timeline of projects.
While briefing the attendees of the meeting, Chairman RDA highlighted the importance of improved traffic and sewerage systems in Raja Bazar to attract tourists. In this regard, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was directed to submit a plan to carry out the project. In addition, he directed Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) to ensure timely completion of the projects.
The urban regeneration of Sarafa Bazar, and the conservation of Sujan Singh Haveli are scheduled to begin by February 2021.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Director Finance RDA Muhammad Junaid Taj Bhatti, Dr. Naveed Iftikhar, DSP Traffic Police, representatives of MCR and the Walled City of Lahore Authority, and other relevant officials.
