These machines are available at the ECHO department of the hospital and the Emergency department, catering to the requirements of both departments. The department also welcomes postgraduate trainees who wish to undergo training in Echocardiography.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The hospital has established the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as a specialized unit designed to provide comprehensive and state-of-the-art care to critically ill surgical patients. Since its inception in February 2013 with 12 beds, the unit has expanded to accommodate a larger number of patients. Vigilant ICU nurses staff all beds equipped with invasive monitors to ensure patient safety and comfort.
The ICU manages cardiac surgical patients post-first operation, and a 12-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU) adjacent to the SICU follows patient progress. Patients undergo discharge either to the ward or directly home based on their post-operative recovery.
OPD
The Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology was established in late 2012. It started with a few patients in 2012, but with time, the number increased day by day. Currently, the hospital takes care of around 1800 patients in OPD every day.
More than 10 doctors work in OPD every day, including two specialists. OPD timing is from 08:00 AM in the morning to 01:00 PM in the afternoon. OPD is fully computerised and linked with the HMIS system of the hospital.
Clinical Psychology
Established in November 2020, the Department of Clinical Psychology aims to improve the Quality of Life for heart patients. It offers assessments and diagnoses for psychological disorders linked to cardiovascular diseases, including depression and anxiety. Additionally, the department provides psychotherapeutic interventions, counseling for lifestyle modifications.
