Performing Qurbani (also known as Udhiyah) is a significant act of worship for Muslims around the world. It is a sacred ritual that commemorates the spirit of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
Graana.com has prepared a guide on ‘Qurbani ki dua’ below, which includes the importance of Qurbani and the understanding of the supplication.
Qurbani is the Islamic practice of sacrificing an animal on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The sacrifice is made in remembrance of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah.
The history of Qurbani dates back to the time of Prophet Ibrahim, who dreamt that Allah commanded him to sacrifice his beloved son. Both father and son willingly agreed to fulfil Allah’s command, but as Ibrahim raised the knife, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, signifying that their unwavering faith and obedience were accepted.
Qurbani means ‘sacrifice’ in the Arabic language. It involves the ritual slaughter of an animal during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah to demonstrate devotion and obedience to Allah. The purpose of Qurbani is to emulate the act of Prophet Ibrahim, who willingly submitted to Allah’s command, showcasing absolute trust and dedication.
The below is Qurbani Dua:
“I have turned my face to that Being who has created the skies and the Earth in the state of the Straight Deen of Ibrahim – and I am not amongst the Mushrikeen. Definitely, my Salaat, my Ibadat and my living and dying is all for Allah, who is the Lord of the worlds, and who has no partner. I have been ordered (all that passed) I am amongst the Muslimeen (the obedient). O Allah this sacrifice is due to You granting us the ability to do so and it is for You.”
Qurbani is obligatory for financially stable adult Muslims who possess the Nisab (minimum wealth threshold). It is not compulsory for children, the elderly, or those who cannot afford it. However, performing Qurbani is highly recommended for individuals who are eligible and have the means to do so.
