RAWALPINDI: Accelerating measures against the spread of Coronavirus, two Quarantine facilities will be established in Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) and Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, facilitating up to 500 patients in case of any emergency.
The initiative approved by the Punjab Government was announced by Commissioner Capt (R) Mohammad Mehmood in a meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner Capt (R) Anwarul Haq, Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Umer, District Health Authority CEO Dr Suhail Ahmed and the Deputy Commissioners of Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum.
Briefing on the available facilities in the city to combat COVID-19, it was informed that a treating facility for 100 suspected patients was set up at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, whereas eight rural health units to facilitate more than 1,000 people, and two-room isolation wards have also been established in seven Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQ).
Furthermore, a 42 bedded isolation ward facility, 65 bedded infectious diseases wards and 27 beds in high dependency units have been set up in Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital for the surveillance and treatment for the pandemic.
To corroborate the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by the Punjab government and monitor the situation, the authorities have set up a divisional control room at the commissioner’s office. The provincial government will be updated on a daily basis regarding the ongoing situation in the four districts.
He also stressed upon the significance of taking up the precautionary measures, especially social distancing and personal hygiene to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In addition, three quarantine centres have also been established in Taxila, Fatehjang and Hassanabdal to combat the coronavirus.
