Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) last year had approved new building by-laws. They could however not be implemented as RMC was not notified by the provincial government. As a result, the building branch was approving building plans in accordance with old rules and by-laws.
The new building by-laws were formulated for 46 city union councils of by a committee led by former mayor Sardar Naseem. As per the new by-laws a no-objection certificate (NOC) would be required from the RMC for the construction of commercial buildings and applications for gas, electricity and water connections. Commercial and residential building owners would then receive completion certificates from the civic body and verified with RMC record.
RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi has ensured of timely introduction of new building by-laws in the city.
