MULTAN: Punjab Archeology department-approved PC-1 of museums in Multan and Harappa, costing Rs80 million each.
The Multan museum project, scheduled to be completed within two years, will be set up at a new spacious site that was selected near the Archeology department office.
Out of the allocated sum, Rs67 million will be utilised by the buildings department to construct a single storey edifice in the city of saints. The layout plan of the museum comprises a 40×40 main lobby in the middle, rooting out to four same size galleries 30×30 feet, connected by smaller galleries.
A curator office, staff room, a verandah before the entrance, a conference hall/library in the basement, besides separate toilets for males and females will also be included in the museum.
The Archeology department will use the remaining sum to procure machinery & equipment, furniture and fixtures, showcases to display antiquities, install a security system, befitting a museum, employment of staff and other requirements to set up a museum.
The relevant officers have acquired antiquities and artefacts worth Rs1.5 million for the Multan museum, it was added.
To construct the building in Harappa, a sum of Rs48 million has been allocated to the buildings department and the remaining sum of Rs32 million by the Archeology department.
Work on both projects will be launched as soon as the funding is released to finish the projects within the given time.
