KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued notices to 6,324 private schools and tuition centers, according to Karachi Regional Tax Officer (RTO-II)
A survey was conducted by the Broadening of Tax Base (BTB) Zone that informed ROT-II that a large number of private schools, tuition centers, training schools, and other academies were registered with the FBR. This has incurred a huge loss to the national exchequer as these institutions were not a part of the tax net even though their businesses were booming.
Apart from evading taxes, these institutions are not filing their income tax returns under the section of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The taxes are also not being deducted on salaries being given to the teachers and staff, under section 149 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
