Ambassador of Portugal, Paulo Neves Pocinho has said that his country wanted to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in many fields including trade, IT and education. In a meeting with President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Ahmed Waheed, the diplomat said that both countries have room to strengthen bilateral collaboration for mutual benefit. He emphasised the need for trade delegations to be sent to Portugal to explore new avenues of business cooperation.
Pocinho said that Portugal can cooperate with Pakistan in technology and machinery. He said that Portugal’s universities were the top-ranking and are providing quality education and Pakistani students should benefit by studying in Portugal at an affordable cost. Noting the paradigm shift in Portugal’s economy in the last decade, he said that the country can go beyond exporting goods and export its services to Pakistan. He also displayed an eagerness to establish B2B relations between the private sectors of Pakistan and Portugal.
Speaking at the occasion, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed said that the trade potential between the two countries far exceeds the current trade volume and both countries need to work on realising that potential. He said that Pakistan is producing quality products at affordable costs and highlighted that Portugal can benefit from this. He also expressed a desire for the youth of the two countries to learn from each other’s experience and develop start-up companies and promote the culture of entrepreneurship.
