ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for the Murree Road underpass on Thursday, a key infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow by connecting Murree Road directly to Srinagar Highway. The underpass is expected to be completed by the end of next month.
Designed to offer a signal-free route from Islamabad International Airport to Muzaffarabad, the project will ease congestion for daily commuters from Murree, Bhara Kahu, and nearby areas. Currently, traffic from these regions must pass through the busy Kashmir Chowk roundabout, which often causes delays. Once complete, the new route will bypass the roundabout, ensuring smoother travel.
Part of the larger Serena Interchange initiative—completed earlier this year—the underpass project is being developed at a cost of Rs900 million and is progressing rapidly. Prime Minister Sharif praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa, and other officials for accelerating Islamabad’s development and emphasized the need for timely infrastructure upgrades to support the capital’s growth.
