SIALKOT: In a bid to uplift the city, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan announced a development package worth Rs17billion, under the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP).
The development work includes an improved water supply and sewerage system, solid waste management and establishment and uplift of parks to promote recreational activities.
PM Imran Khan lauded Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar for launching development works fulfilling the needs of the people, after thorough review and planning.
While visiting the city, the PM performed the groundbreaking ceremony to launch work on a recreational park worth Rs300 million, a Rs14 billion Sialkot University of Applied Engineering and Technology project, Rs9.5 billion sewage system and water supply schemes, and the latest machinery for solid waste management worth Rs600 million.
The water supply project includes the installation of 15 new tube-wells and replacement of 260km long water pipelines. In addition, work on seven filtration plants and five overhead reservoirs will also be carried out, scheduled to be completed by 2022. The project is aimed at supplying clean drinking water to over 322,000 people till 2044.
The government will soon approve the establishment of a new industrial estate, spread over an area of one thousand acres, announced PM Khan. This project will be aimed at providing relief to the small-medium enterprises (SMEs), and employment generation for the locals. He further gave assurance to enhance the volume of loans for the sector.
Moreover, a labourers colony will also be established under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme in Sialkot to provide low-cost housing for the deserving segments of society.
