Basic kinds of Pakistani Passports

 

Passport Type Description
Ordinary Machine Readable Passport (MRP) Issued to ordinary citizens for routine international travel. Valid for 5 or 10 years.
Official Passport Issued to Pakistani government officials, including employees of the government and government organizations.
Diplomatic Passport Issued to Pakistani diplomats, high-ranking government officials, and individuals representing Pakistan on official matters internationally.
Hajj Passport Issued specifically for pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the purpose of Hajj.
Emergency Passport Issued in emergencies when the regular passport is lost, stolen, or damaged while abroad. It is a temporary travel document.

Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a Passport from Passport Offices in Lahore

 

Step Description Required Actions
Step 1 Arrival at Customer Service Counter Go to the Regional Passport Office’s customer service counter with all required documents. If everything is in order, proceed to the token counter.
Step 2 Token Counter and Photograph Present original CNIC/Smart-Card/NICOP or Children Registration Certificate (CRC) along with copies and bank challan form. Have photographs taken, and receive a token.
Step 3 Biometric Data Capture Approach the Biometric Counter with the token and have fingerprints taken by the Data Entry Operator.
Step 4 Data Entry by Office Staff Move to Data Entry Counters when the token appears. The Data Entry Operator enters the applicant’s information, and the printed Data Entry Form is presented for verification and signing. Collect duplicate tokens if required.
Step 5 Verification as per Office Record (ECL/BL) Verification against office records, Exit Control List (ECL), and Black List (BL) to ensure a clean history. If any doubt, may be referred to the Special Branch/IB for confirmation.
Step 6 Interview & Decision by Assistant Director Appear before the Assistant Director when the token appears. The Assistant Director conducts an interview, and a decision is made. For applicants below 18, attestation by a Class 1 Govt. officer is required. If deferred, present the attested form for the case to go ahead.

 

Things Needed at the Passport Office for MRP

To get your machine-readable passport at the office, make sure you carry the following documents with you.

  • Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC)/NICOP/Smart-Card or Children Registration Certificate (Form”B”)>
  • Original Bank Challan of Rs.3000/- for Normal & Rs.5000/- for Urgent processing for 5 years validity passport & Rs.5400/- for Normal & Rs.9000/- for Urgent processing of 10 years validity passport
  • Children under 15 years of age will be issued 05 years validity Passport
  • Old Passport (if any)

Validity Period of the Passport

The government of Pakistan issues two kinds of passports. 

The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports will issue the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) valid for five years & Ten years subject to a fee deposit.

However, you must remember that a passport having a validity of 05 years cannot be converted into validity for 10 years. Also, children under 15 years of age will be issued a Passport having 05 years’ validity.

Normal/Urgent (18 & Above)

  • Original Bank Challan (receipt) with prescribed fee deposits.
  • Original Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC)/NICOP/Smart-Card issued by NADRA with its 2-photocopies.
  • OLD Passport with its photocopy, if issued.
  • NOC in case of a Government Servant.
  • Foreign Passport along with its photocopy, for Dual-Nationality holders only.

 

Normal/Urgent (Under 18)

  • Original Bank Challan (receipt) with prescribed fee deposits.
  • Original Computerized Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA with its 2-photocopies.
  • Copies of Parents Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), accompanied by either of them (Father/Mother).
  • Foreign Passport along with its photocopy, for Dual -Nationality holders only.
