The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) is set to commence operations by the end of December 2024, according to Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, Acting Director-General of the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).
During a recent site visit, Saeed, accompanied by Deputy Director-General Airports Engineer Sadiqur Rehman and Project Director Engineer Faizullah Khattak, assessed the airport’s operational readiness and engaged with key stakeholders, including the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), the Chamber of Commerce, the Pakistan Navy, and the Pakistan Army.
The NGIAP, a pivotal component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), represents a $246 million investment aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth. The facility boasts a world-class terminal building, an expansive runway, and modern amenities designed to accommodate both passenger and cargo traffic.
The airport’s strategic location in Gwadar is anticipated to significantly boost trade and tourism, positioning the city as a central hub for international commerce. The PAA has expressed confidence in meeting the operational deadline, with all necessary measures being implemented to ensure the airport’s activation within the stipulated timeline.
