ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to enhance cooperation in digital infrastructure and the IT sector under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to China Economic Net (CEN), the Pakistani government has prioritised the growth of telecommunications infrastructure and the popularisation of telecoms services, particularly in rural and impoverished areas.
At present, there are nearly 3.7mn broadband users in Pakistan; among the 51,000 villages, most do not fall into the domain of telecommunication services.
Since 60% of Pakistan’s population is below the age of 30, experts are of the opinion that communication services would see rapid development in the future.
With the surging importance of the digital economy across the world, Pakistan has a hefty demand to develop its own information technology to boost its industrial development.
