ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority has earmarked a sum of Rs 36billion to construct and repair road Infrastructure about 1550km long.
The allocated sum was earmarked under the Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) 2021-22. Out of the total amount, Rs53.56 billion will be utilised to rehabilitate the existing network of highways and motorways. A sum of Rs 6 billion was granted by the federal government for the upgradation of Balkasar-Mianwali and Mianwali-Muzaffargarh Road. A sum of Rs6.6 will be utilised for routine maintenance of roads.
Out of Rs26.6 billion allocated for regular maintenance, Rs 9billion will be utilised for road rehabilitation, Rs19.9 billion and Rs 9billion for functional and structural overlay. The NHA has reserved Rs 1.36 billion for highway safety measures and Rs100 for the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’.
Besides the total budget, Rs 2 billion and Rs 500 million have been set aside by the NHA for any destruction caused by natural calamities, which have to be collected by the public through taxes or tolls.
