New Maintenance tenders to be called for Orange Line, Lahore

LAHORE: In the next 15 days, with the work on the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project almost complete, Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) is all set to re-float the tenders for the scheme’s operation and maintenance contract, as concerns were raised on the previous process by the Chief minister heading PMTA.

“More than 95 percent of the work on the project had been completed, as the remaining would be completed by Nov 20”, said LDA Director General Muhammad Usman Moazzam said on Monday.

He further informed that “The project had been handed over to Chinese contractor CR-NORINCO for carrying out electrical and mechanical works as well as for testing and commissioning of the trains for six months.”

The layout of the track has been completed throughout the 27 kilometers length at an elevation of 14 meters, of the project from Dera Gujjran to Ali Town, briefed LDA Chief Engineer Mazhar Hussain Khan, as 26 stations have been constructed, including the 2 underground at GPO Chowk and Anarkali.

As the deadline of the project is the first week of December, the firm brought in would be required to bring trained drivers for all sets of trains for the operation of the project, another official told.
