Mega industrial projects launched under CPEC

Islamabad: Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan visited Islamabad on Sunday for a three day appointment in regards to recalling the strengthening ties between China and Pakistan under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Day one of the visit saw the inauguration of four mega projects including Lahore- Matiari transmission line and Rashakai Special Economic Zone. A number of agreements were also signed with Prime Minister Imran Khan and VP Wang being the witnesses.

Under the first project, a transmission line of 660kv would be laid between Matiari and Lahore. It aims to transmit power from coal based plants located at Thar, Port Qasim and Hub. The project would have the capacity to supply 2000 MW with 10 percent overloaded capability for two hours.

The plaque for Rashakai Special Economic Zone (RSEC) was unveiled for the promotion of industrialization through optimally priced, state of the art infrastructure in KP province. It is expected to become the Trade and Logistics Hub connecting Kashgar, Kabul and Gwadar on the Belt and Road.

The ceremony also marked the inauguration of Confucious Institute at the University of Punjab and the launch of Huawei Technical Support Center.

On his visit to the Chaklala Air Base, VP Wang while speaking at the ‘Friends of Silk Road’, said that Pakistan and China were strategic partners which would stand by one another for development under CPEC. This initiative encompasses all political parties, regions and communities across Pakistan while enjoying the strongest support in China as well.

The forum was attended by political leaders including Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Planning Minister Khusro Bakhtiar, Finance Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, members of the Chinese delegation, opinion makers, linked communities, academia, media and think tanks.
