KARACHI: Irrigation Secretary Saeed Ahmed Mangrio informed that a medium level flood is expected due to 400,000 to 500,000 cusecs of water flow in the River Indus after India released water without any prior information.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued flood alerts, as the CM directed the commissioners to take steps regarding relief work and precautionary measures. He further asked to monitor all the weak points of embankments in different areas of River Indus and ordered to evacuate the people from the katcha area if needed.
Furthermore, to facilitate the people, the Pakistan Meteorological Department also issued a flood/weather advisory as heavy rainfalls were observed over the upper and lower catchments of Rivers Sutlej, Beas and Ravi during the last 72 hours.
Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretaries of Irrigation and Rehabilitation and Karachi Commissioner also attended the meeting, as other divisional commissioners attended the meeting via video link.
