Local Authorities Prohibit Buying and Selling of CDA’s Acquired Land Using Stamp Papers

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to tackle the rising number of rehabilitation claims, the district administration of the capital city, responsible for regulating stamp vendors, has imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of Capital Development Authority (CDA) acquired land through stamp papers.

To combat the illegal trade of CDA’s acquired land through stamp papers, the CDA approached the district administration, urging them to prohibit this practice and ensure the compliance of authorized stamp vendors.

Responding to the request, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue of Islamabad has issued a stern warning letter to all stamp vendors, ordering them to cease this activity immediately. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of their licenses, accompanied by legal action.

Over the years, the civic authority has acquired extensive land in various revenue estates of the capital city for the purpose of developing residential sectors and other ventures. However, the authority has faced challenges in providing complete compensation and securing absolute possession of the acquired land in many areas.

With the recent completion of Margalla Avenue, neighbouring underdeveloped sectors now face an imminent threat of adverse possession.

The CDA acquired the land in these sectors years ago but has yet to commence development work. The situation in sectors D-13, E-13, and F-13 is particularly dire, as private individuals have unlawfully occupied hundreds of kanals of land and constructed extravagant villas without proper documentation. This unfortunate situation is a direct result of the sale and purchase of land on stamp papers.

In light of these developments, the district administration’s decision to ban the sale and purchase of CDA-acquired land through stamp papers is expected to alleviate the surge in rehabilitation claims.

The move aims to ensure that the authority has full control over its acquired land and can effectively carry out planned development projects in a legally compliant manner.
