Lahore – The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has successfully completed the digital mapping of over 7,000 illegal commercial buildings across the city. As part of its ongoing efforts to address illegal constructions, the LDA plans to impose substantial fines on these identified buildings and take strict action against any violations of construction regulations.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq visited the Gulberg area to review the progress of enforcement teams involved in the survey and digital mapping of unauthorized commercial properties. During his visit, Chief Town Planner I, Assad-uz-Zaman, and Director Town Planning Zone-III, Sidra Tabbasum, briefed him, who provided updates on the ongoing work. The teams are conducting daily surveys, and the DG has directed them to expedite the digital mapping process to be completed more quickly.
In addition to the mapping, the LDA enforcement teams have sealed two buildings in Gulberg for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) during construction. The teams also removed construction materials and encroachments from more than ten other properties.
In a related operation, the LDA Town Planning Wing sealed 24 commercial buildings in Allama Iqbal Town and Mustafa Town for failing to comply with regulations and for non-payment of commercialisation fees. Among the sealed properties were Meezan Bank, The Educators school, a private clinic, a restaurant, a marriage hall, and a grocery store. Prior notices had been issued to the owners of these buildings before the operations took place, with the LDA enforcement teams working closely with the police to carry out these actions.
Director General Tahir Farooq emphasized the need for continued, aggressive enforcement efforts against illegal commercial buildings and those evading commercialisation fees in Lahore.
