LDA Leads Plantation Drives Across the City

LAHORE: In Lahore, Director General Tahir Farooq of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) inaugurated the Miyawaki Forest at LDA Avenue One, F Block, as part of the Plant for Pakistan campaign on Thursday.

Officials reported the planting of 6,000 Miyawaki plants in LDA Avenue, F Block, with the participation of children from LDA schools. LDA officers, staff, and students were also involved in planting saplings. Director General Tahir Farooq personally planted saplings near Central Park on Avenue One, joined by Chief Engineer Israr Saeed, Additional DGs, and other officers. Tahir Farooq also distributed free saplings to the residents of Avenue One.

Tahir Farooq stated that LDA was distributing saplings free of charge at various locations across the city and planned to plant over 200,000 saplings under this campaign, with support from private housing schemes.

Subsequently, Tahir Farooq launched a plantation drive at Finance and Trade Centre, Johar Town, where MNA Saif-ul-Malook Khokhar also planted a sapling. Tahir Farooq mentioned that these efforts align with the vision of the CM for promoting greenery in Lahore.

At the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Jinnah Campus, faculty, staff, and students planted tree saplings as part of the ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign. Vice-Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore inaugurated the event with a Baid Palm sapling. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Nadia Naseem and Registrar Prof Sarah Ghafoor followed by planting Lady Palm and Star Ficus plants, respectively.

The university aims to plant around 1,000 trees during this initiative. Prof Rathore highlighted the benefits of trees, including air purification, and inaugurated an Environment Protection and Horticulture Society led by Dr Shah Jahan.
