LAHORE: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced the development of housing schemes in the districts of Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib as per the model of the LDA City housing project executed at Lahore.
As per reports, the authority has been given a permit to establish field offices in the aforementioned districts to ease the planning and execution process.
An official source reported that the rationale behind the proposal was to undertake effective housing planning to ease burgeoning population pressure, provide good services and generate revenue for the sustainable development of LDA. The project will create additional revenue for the payment of salaries to essential staff, the development of infrastructure and other miscellaneous expenses.
In 2013, the jurisdiction of the LDA was enhanced by the Punjab government. Several functions were stressed by the governing body including master planning, conversion of land use and overseeing approval of private societies.
LDA claims that it has concluded several projects in the districts of Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib. Hence, the approval of the Lahore Division Master Plan 2050 is a welcome step in the direction of sustainable planning of infrastructure for the welfare of the general public.
Under section 6 (3) (i) of the LDA act, the authority may prepare, implement, and enforce schemes for urban development and environmental protection. In accordance with the law, the authority has approved several private housing schemes in the aforementioned districts.
