The CM further directed the authorities to procure land to initiate work on the second phase of the highway project, while chairing a meeting of the Communication and Works Department.

The road network will help boost tourism and commercial activities in the Malakand division.

The meeting was briefed on the progress of the project.

It was informed that construction work of the road and the Chakdara interchange has been completed, whereas work on building five bridges and two tunnels will be completed soon, to operationalise the highway project for the public.

The project was due in June, but due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the pace of work was affected.

Phase-I of the motorway is expected to be fully reopened for traffic by the end of August.

For the land acquisition under phase-II, a Project Concept-I (PC-I) was prepared and submitted to the relevant authority for approval.

A 79km long road extending from Chakdara to the Fatehpur area of Swat, with nine interchanges and eight bridges, will be constructed.
