Iqbal Institute of Policy Studies launches Advisory Board

ISLAMABAD: Iqbal Institute of Policy Studies (IIPS), a visionary platform for research, policy studies and constructive dialogue to aid sustainable national development, launched its Advisory Board in a formal ceremony at Serena Hotel, Islamabad on February 18, 2020.

The launch and inaugural session of the Advisory Board was attended by notable members of academia, government and industry.

IIPS is an independent policy research institute that will help improve policy and decision making through research and analysis. The think-tank is the brainchild of Shafiq Akbar, a renowned real estate expert and Chairman Graana and Imarat Group of Companies.

The IIPS Advisory Board will operate to realise the vision of the institute and is headed by Lt. Gen. Muhammad Haroon Aslam (R) in the capacity of President.

Members of the Board are seasoned professionals from a diverse set of fields, including Tariq Ikram (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), a former minister for state and chief executive trade development authority, Doctor Asif Naqvi, International associate director of Royal College of physicians and surgeons UK, Rear Admiral (R) Saleem Akhtar, a former DG Bahria University Islamabad, Dr. Shujat Ali, former federal secretary, Dr Zafar Qadir, Chairman Taleem Foundation, Air Vice Marshal (R) Sohail Ahmad and Khurram Farid Bargatt, Vice Chairman town planning for Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP).

The Advisory Board of IIPS will strive to provide thoughtful leadership and strategic oversight for the institute, as it moves forward to realise its vision to develop into a centre of excellence to facilitate policy formulation for sustainable development of Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Shafiq Akbar said that IIPS will collaborate with public and private sector institutes to work on policy issues and to launch various policy recommendations for different sectors after thorough research and analysis.

He also termed IIPS as a bridge between academia and industry that will introduce various initiatives for youth empowerment, skill trainings and growth policies.

Meanwhile, President IIPS Advisory Board Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Haroon Aslam said that IIPS has been established as a think-tank to provide guidance, advice, recommendations and its positive reinforcement towards policymaking for the growth of the country.
