Water is crucial for the survival of mankind on the face of the earth. Without water, humanity would perish within days. It is safe to say that water holds significance because it is connected with everything around us. It is important for all of us to develop an understanding of water sources and how important they are for us.

In this blog, we aim to highlight the importance of water.

So, let’s begin!

Sources of Water

Following are some of the sources that are found in abundance on earth.

Surface water

Surface water includes rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, and wetlands. All these water bodies contain freshwater instead of saltwater. These sources are very easy to filter and can be used for drinking and agriculture. Also, this source of water is highly accessible because many people live near large lakes or streams from which they can get water.

Groundwater

Apart from surface water, a huge quantity of water is also present inside the earth. However, these sources have less accessibility because they are difficult to reach. Underground is also the primary source of plant hydration because water seeps through the roots into the plant.

Rainwater

Rainwater is also known as stormwater is a source that is heavily dependent on heavy weather such as rain, snow, and hail. This type of water stays on the surface of the water and turns into engine oil, fertilizer, and pesticides due to different pollutants. There are many major causes of water pollution.

Prevents the Dehydration Process

We need to remain hydrated at all times. Without proper water intake, our body will not be able to function properly. Dehydration can be fatal as well because it can cause seizures, kidney failure, and death of brain cells.

Important for Skin

Skin is the largest organ of the body. Collagen is the protein found abundantly in the skin. This protein is highly dependent on water content for its proper functioning. Also, we need water to enhance plasticity and reduce the signs of ageing.

Psychological Effects

Water not only improves our physical health but also our mental health. Water boosts your mood, reduces anxiety and stress. Water therapy is also used as a psychological intervention to increase self-awareness and decrease stress.

Also, research shows that intake of water has a positive impact on our cognitive abilities including focus, attention, and memory.

Boosts Energy

Water intake activates our metabolic system and speeds up the overall process. With enhanced metabolism comes a boost in energy. One study found that drinking 500 milliliters of water boosted the metabolic rate by 30 percent in both men and women. These effects appeared to last over an hour.

Keeps You Healthy

Water intake keeps us healthy and active. Some of the diseases that can be overcome with proper water intake include constipation, kidney stones, exercise-induced asthma, urinary tract infection, and hypertension.

Also, water acts as a catalyst. It speeds up the absorption of many important elements and minerals such as vitamins and calcium.

Improves Blood Circulation

Water intake has a positive impact on the circulation of blood. Blood carries the important nutrients in the body and water helps in the process.

Weight Loss

According to research, water intake helps to dissolve excess fats from the body. Also, if you take water during diet or exercise, you will be able to shred all those unwanted fats. Warm water mixed with lemon and honey helps to lose weight as well.

Helps in Digestion

Water is excellent for sound digestion. It is very healthy to drink water before having your meal. The water not only allows you to take less food but also aids in the digestion of food. The water breaks down the food particles and helps you digest food more effectively and get the most out of your meals.

Reduces Stomach Related Issues

Fiber intake is not the only thing that reduces constipation. To reduce constipation, it is important to maintain a good water intake. If you don’t consume enough water, magnesium, and fiber, you may get constipation and other stomach-related issues.

Helps in Excretion

Water is essential for the human body because it is used for sweating, urination, and bowel movements. Sweat regulates our body temperature, especially when we are exercising or feeling warm. You need water to replenish the lost fluid from sweat.

Also, the kidney is one of the most important organs of our body that requires water for its proper functioning. It filters out wastes and proper intake is important to prevent kidney stones.

Protects Tissues and Muscle

Water consumption is important for the smooth functioning of muscles and tissues. It helps as a lubrication system for joints, spinal cord, and tissues. In the long term, water intake helps in the prevention of arthritis as well.

Role of Water for the Environment

Water is equally important for the environment as well. Wate helps in the restoration of the natural flow of water bodies including rivers, wetlands, etc. Water is also very important for the construction sector. It is one of the main raw materials needed for the construction of houses and other structures.

Water is needed for the process of agriculture as well. With a smooth flow of water, crops flourish. Also, it is used to keep the soil moist for the germination of seeds and bulbs.

A lot of other industries are dependent on water as well such as Recreational fishing, tourism industry, and public health.

Woodland birds also respond to a healthy wetland environment. They feed, breed, and move out into the surrounding landscape helping to pollinate plants and control pest insects.

So, these are some of the important uses of water. As responsible citizens, we must take all kinds of measures to safeguard water for our future generations. Make sure you do not waste water contents.
