About Greenwich University

Greenwich University (GU) is a private research university situated in DHA Karachi. It has been granted autonomous degree-awarding university status by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and is renowned for its business school programs.

The university has produced successful alumni who hold prominent positions in various fields, including senators, members of the national and provincial assemblies, as well as CEOs of leading multinational and national organisations. In addition, it is authorised to offer its programs abroad and to affiliate with other educational institutions.

 

Campus Life

Greenwich University offers an excellent academic environment, with state-of-the-art computer laboratories equipped with top-of-the-line computers. Furthermore, unlimited access to the Internet is available to all students.

There are various facilities provided by the university, as outlined below.

 

Kids’ Corner

At Greenwich University, there is a strong commitment to supporting female staff, students, and faculty members throughout their academic and professional endeavours.

It strives to improve accessibility to higher education for women and facilitate work-life balance for working mothers by providing a fully equipped childcare facility on campus that is staffed by trained professionals. 

 

Communication Centre

The university has established several administrative service centres to provide guidance and support to its students. Among these is the Communication Centre, which serves to facilitate communication between students and members of the administration.

The centre operates for 12 hours daily and provides administrative and support services to students, including responding to inquiries, processing admission applications, managing enrolment, handling fees and scholarships, scheduling classes, managing leaves, adding and dropping courses, issuing transcripts, facilitating internships, providing counseling services, and supporting career development.

 

Research and Development Centre

The Greenwich Research & Development Centre (GRDC) is a platform for academic and professional explorers to engage in research and exploration in various disciplines and fields. The centre is designed to support and promote research through the preparation and submission of papers for seminars, conferences, and research journals.

The centre also offers training in various research fields, including Basic Research, Applied Research, Quantitative Research, Qualitative Research, Development & Evaluation Research, Strategic Research, Investigator Driven Research, Priority Driven Research and Clinical Research, Health Policy and Systems Research, Health Services Research, and Public Health Research.

It aims to collaborate with research institutions in Pakistan and abroad as well. The university publishes two research journals: ‘New Horizons’ under the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities and ‘Journal of Business Strategies’ under the Faculty of Management Sciences and Information Studies.

Both journals have been recognised by the Higher Education Commission for their high level of research. It also has a quarterly newsletter, G-Vision, in which students interested in writing can express their ideas. 

Furthermore, the communication centre operates for 12 hours to provide administrative and support services to students, including responding to and assisting with student inquiries, admission applications, enrollment, fees and scholarships, timetables, leaves, adding/dropping courses, transcripts, incomplete contracts, internships, counselling and careers.

 

Career & Development Centre

To assist students with personal, academic, and career concerns, the Greenwich Career Development Centre (GCDC) provides support services that are collaborative and goal-focused. 

It is dedicated to training and placing students in suitable careers. Qualified counsellors, trained by USAID (with whom the university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding), provide comprehensive counselling services to students, with a particular focus on women.

In addition, the GCDC organises Human Resource forums, inviting representatives from the private sector, academia, and government to discuss sector-specific HR issues, challenges, and priorities. These events provide insights into the HR needs, key skills, and requirements of the business sector and market.

 

Computer Laboratories

There are three computer labs that offer full internet capabilities, multimedia publishing, data analysis tools, word processing, and other electronic communication options. 

The computers in the labs are all branded with Core 2 Duo, Core i5, and i7 processors, and are connected through LAN and WiFi networking. In addition, the labs are also equipped with the latest multimedia devices, including laser jet printers, scanners, and video cameras, which are available for faculty and student use.

 

Library

The library is designed to cater to the needs of both students and faculty members. The number of books in each department has been significantly increased, and the facility of a book bank is also available. This enables students, especially those who cannot afford expensive books, to access used ones donated by others.

Furthermore, the university library offers an extensive collection of resources to its users, including over 22,500 books and e-books. Additionally, 24 international research journals and 25 national research journals are available. Through the HEC digital library, users can access more than a million latest books and journals.

 

Interactive Classrooms

The classrooms are equipped with cutting-edge technology and interactive tools, such as touchscreen devices and high-definition projectors. Additionally, CCTV cameras are installed to ensure proper decorum is maintained during classes.

 

Sports

 

 

There is a designated area for sports like football, futsal, basketball, tennis, volleyball and cricket with proper markings and layouts. In addition to physical sports, the university also provides opportunities for students to engage in indoor games, such as snooker, billiard, table tennis, chess, darts, and scrabble. 

 

Medical Facilities

To ensure that everyone has access to quality medical facilities when needed, the university has a full-time doctor on campus.

The clinic provides medical assistance to students and staff; an ambulance service is also available. Additionally, administrative staff are trained in first aid. 

 

Transport

It also offers transportation services to students who live nearby as well as upon special request. Additionally, separate transportation arrangements are provided for the faculty and staff members.

 

Open and Shaded Courtyards

Open and shaded courtyards with waterproof chairs, tables, and comfortable cushions have been set up for students especially. 

 

Financial Assistance

The scholarship program comes with various features, including determining the scholarship amount on a case-by-case basis, fee concessions ranging from 10% to 100%, and a 25% fee concession across-the-board for students who achieve a qualifying GPA of 3.8 or higher based on their workload.

Other features include a 25% fee concession for siblings of registered students and alumni, fee concessions ranging from 25% to 100% for siblings of staff, and fee concessions ranging from 25% to 75% for faculty members.

 

Internship Opportunities

To provide hands-on experience and industry exposure, students of Media Sciences and Business Administration are required to complete internships as part of their program. The Department of Corporate Services and Placement (CSP) facilitates this process by coordinating with national and multinational companies to offer training and job opportunities to students. The qualified staff at CSP offers the following comprehensive services to support prospective interns:

  • Conduct seminars and workshops featuring HR personnel from leading national and multinational companies
  • Collect and maintain a database of job opportunities sourced from newspapers, web portals, and other media, which is then posted on notice boards
  • Organise interactive sessions with HR firms
  • Provide individual counselling to encourage students to pursue internships
  • Collaborate with academic departments to incorporate career development activities into the students’ educational experiences
  • Build connections with employers, professional institutions, and alumni to expand educational and recruitment opportunities for students
  • Organise on-campus career fairs to increase access to employment opportunities

What is the eligibility criteria for Greenwich University Karachi?

To be considered for admission here, applicants must have achieved a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in their Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 2nd Division. In addition to this, applicants are required to take the Greenwich University Graduate Admission Test (GUGAT). They also need to participate in an interview and group discussion conducted by the university.

Moreover, applicants must also provide recommendations and a statement from their parents or guardians in support of their application.
