ISLAMABAD: A sum of Rs50 million has been approved by the government under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2020-21 to upgrade the railway stations across the country.
Along with modernizing the railway stations, the authorities will ensure the provision of all facilities to accommodate the passengers under the initiative.
In addition, the authorities have floated tenders for the development of two major railway stations located in Rawalpindi and Rohri. The tenders are under process of final approval.
In a bid to ensure the smooth operations of trains and safety of the passengers, the Pakistan Railways (PR) authorities have announced to reconstruct 11 bridges, including three bridges in Sukkur Division, six in Multan and two in Lahore, and repair another 55 across the country, including, five in Rawalpindi, two in Multan, 34 bridges in Karachi, 11 in Sukkur, two in Peshawar and one in Quetta.
At present, the government has been encouraging private partners and builders to carry out the up-gradation work.
Currently, development work on five stations, including Hassan Abdal, Nakana Sahib, Peshawar Cantonment, Karachi Cantonment and Lahore was in progress and will be completed soon.
