The old havelis and structures of mediaeval Bhawana, with their elaborate jharoka windows, were a source of great admiration for the emperor for the city’s magnificent architecture.

Etymology of Bhawana

“Bhawana,” often called “Bhowana,” symbolises the city’s two selves. In Punjabi and Urdu, the name is written as “بهوانه,” and it concludes with the suffix “ana.”

This suffix is significant in the area since it is a typical way to end names of septs or sub-tribes within the Sial-Rajput clan. Jabuana, Rahmuana, and Chuchkana are a few examples.

Interestingly, “Bhawana” also refers to a well-known Sial sub-tribe or familial group. Bhawana’s ancient affiliation with the Sial tribe is further reinforced by the fact that many Sial families still live there, making this connection more than merely historical.

Climate and Geography

Bhawana is situated on the banks of the Chenab River and is crossed by the Jhang-Chiniot Road. A bridge connecting the city to Kalri was constructed across the river, funded by a 250 mn PKR investment.

Agriculture is an essential part of Bhawana’s economy. The city is ideally situated: Sargodha is 70 km away, Jhang 48 km away, Faisalabad 50 km away, and Chiniot 37 km away. Bhawana has the usual summer weather of Punjab, with scorching summers and short, cold winters.
