What Is a Furnished Home?

A furnished home includes all the items that residents require to live comfortably. These include all the basic appliances, beds, and a couch.

The term furnished has broad definitions, and there are no hard and fast rules on what should or should not be included in a furnished home. There are two types of furnished homes: fully-furnished and semi-furnished.

Fully-Furnished Homes

Typically, a rental home that is fully furnished includes all kitchen appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer, washer), as well as basic furniture (sofa, dining table and chairs, beds, wardrobes etc.). Those looking for furnished rental properties usually expect these items at the very least.

Additionally, some rentals come with extra appliances, crockery, cutlery, and other necessities for the kitchen and bathroom, including a vacuum cleaner. However, you need to keep in mind that what’s included in one rental property might not be available in another.

Semi-Furnished Rental Home

Rentals that are partially or semi-furnished may include large furniture pieces such as a bed, sofa, table, and chairs. Some will also include a few smaller items, such as a nightstand and lamps.

The little extras, such as towels, a shower curtain, and kitchen utensils, are not included in partially furnished rentals. The tenants have to make a few minor and simple purchases to set up their residences.

What Is Included in a Furnished Home?

Although there isn’t a set list of items included, you can at least count on finding the basic necessities in a furnished house. When a property is marketed as being fully furnished, you can expect a little more than the minimum requirements. For example, it is likely to include a coffee maker, toaster, bath towels, and bedding.

You might also find some supplies for maintenance and cleaning, such as a vacuum cleaner, broom and dustpan, and possibly an iron and ironing board. If you have a laundry room, a laundry basket may be included as well. Most of these items are provided in fully-furnished homes, but you may not find them in semi-furnished homes.

In order to give you a better idea about what is included in a rental property, the following is a list of all the items that you are likely to find in each room of fully-furnished and semi-furnished homes, so that you can easily decide which option is best for you.

Living Room

To make the room more comfortable and welcoming, a fully furnished living room may include a few extras like bookcases, an entertainment centre, a desk, and other furnishings. There can also be a television, stereo, video game console, throw blankets, and house plants in some of these properties.

The living room in a semi-furnished property is most likely to be basic, with a couch, table, and perhaps one or two chairs.

Kitchen

A completely furnished home may have a coffee machine, plates, dish towels, cutlery, and pots and pans in addition to everything else you would find in an equipped kitchen. Some completely furnished apartments may include extras such as salt and pepper shakers, a vegetable peeler, glassware, mugs, cutting boards, and mixing bowls.

The kitchen in a semi-furnished home will most probably just feature the basics like a stove or refrigerator. There will be no utensils or other supplies as such.

Special appliances such as a stand mixer, bread maker, sandwich press, or blender are unlikely to be found in most furnished homes as they are quite expensive.

Dining Room

A furnished dining room will go beyond just the table and chairs; artwork, table mats, linen napkins and other decorative elements can be found as well.

In the case of a semi-furnished home, this area is likely to have only a table and chairs.

Bedroom

There may be extra blankets, pillows, and sheets in a fully-furnished bedroom. Along with a desk, chair, and other furniture pieces, it could also have small accent pieces.

A master bedroom in a semi-furnished home typically includes a bed and dresser. Bedsheets, blankets, and pillows are not usually provided, and it might have the bed frame in some circumstances, but not the mattress.

Bathroom

A plunger, toilet brush, soap dish, toothbrush holder, and at least one complete set of towels can all be found in a furnished bathroom. There may even be a hair dryer in some cases. You will have to purchase your own household items, although the landlord may offer some complimentary items.

A bathroom with partial furnishings is likely to have only essential products. Otherwise, you would need to bring your own shower curtains, wastebaskets and other bathroom accessories.

Pros and Cons of Renting a Furnished Home

In order to help you decide whether you should rent a furnished property, the different advantages and disadvantages of a furnished rental home have been listed below.

Pros of Renting a Furnished Home

Following are some of the benefits of renting a furnished home.

Easy to Move In

If you already own furniture and appliances, it can still be a hassle to transport them to your new residence, especially if you are moving to a different city altogether. On the other hand, if you are shifting into a fully furnished home, you won’t have to worry about these logistics issues.

Lower Upfront Cost

Most of the time, first-time renters aren’t prepared to make new purchases when moving in. However, if your house is fully equipped, you’ll save money on the initial cost of furnishing it. This means you can save up for other important items.

Perfect Short-Term Rentals

If you’re someone who is moving to a new city for a short period of time, then it is wise to rent a fully furnished home. It would be rather pointless to invest your money in a property where you will stay for just a few months. This is why renting a fully furnished home or apartment is the best option if you’re looking for a short-term rental option.

Reduces Stress

Moving to a new place is exhausting and time-consuming. This includes furnishing the property as well. However, you’ll save time, effort, and money if you rent a fully furnished house or a flat.

Cons of Renting a Furnished Home

Given below are some of the drawbacks of renting a fully-furnished or semi-furnished house or apartment.

Worrying about Damages

Property owners usually set a damage fee in order to protect their furniture and belongings. This implies that you must use the landlords’ items with extreme care.

Otherwise, you would have to pay the cost for it when you’re moving out of the house.

Higher Rental Costs

For obvious reasons, furnished homes often have higher rents in comparison to unfurnished homes. If the latter options are in decent condition, they may be

Furniture Quality

The furniture in the furnished home or apartment may not be up to your expectations. It might be unclean and ruined from prior use. A furnished apartment might not be the greatest choice if you don’t feel comfortable with second-hand furniture.

These are some of the advantages and disadvantages of renting a furnished home. If you’re looking for a furnished rental property in Pakistan, visit Graana.com to find a range of options.
