Islamabad – Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, chaired a meeting at CDA headquarters. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) mission participated in the meeting via Zoom, while senior officers from the CDA were also in attendance.
During the meeting, the ADB consultant gave a detailed briefing on the project to construct cycling tracks in Islamabad. Chairman CDA stated that the project would be introduced as a recreational activity and an affordable and alternative mode of transportation for the residents of Islamabad.
He emphasized that the cycling tracks should be interconnected with Islamabad’s Metro bus routes and electric bus stations. He also instructed that this project be developed according to international standards while being economical.
He further stressed that special attention should be paid to preserving the environment and green belts while constructing the cycling tracks. He added that input from environmentalists should be sought to ensure the project is environmentally friendly.
During the meeting, the ADB mission shared the best practices from various countries regarding international cycling tracks in other countries. The ADB presented various proposals for the cycling tracks in Islamabad in light of these global experiences.
