Cement sales jump to record-breaking 5.2mn tons in Sept 2020

LAHORE: The cement sales jumped 18%, recording the highest amount of dispatches of 5.213 million tons in September 2020.

The cement dispatched in the local market grew 17.65% to 4.09 million tons, as compared to 3.47 million tons in September 2019, informed the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA).

On the other hand, cement worth 1.12 million tons were exported, recording an increase of 40.95%, against 0.79 million tons in September 2019, the released data further revealed.

The cement mills in the north dispatched 3.523 million tons during September 2020, jumping 16.3% from 3.029 million tons in September 2019, it added.

With an increase of 9.27%, a total of 0.287 million tons were exported from the northern region.

On the other hand, the domestic cement dispatches in the south jumped 26.84% to 565,236 tons from 445,629 tons in September 2019.

The total exports from the south were recorded at 837,033 tons against 534,751 tons in September 2019, marking an increase of 56.53%.

In total, the dispatched cement increased 21.88% to 13.573 million tons from 11.136 million tons in July-September 2019.

The domestic dispatches recorded a surge of 18.84% to 10.837 million tons.

In addition, the export of cement grew by 35.67% from 2.016 million tons to 2.735 million tons.

Briefing on the matter, an APCMA official credited the positive trend witnessed to large investments in new plants and modernized machinery over the last few years, ensuring the availability of cement at very competitive rates to the consumer.
