ISLAMABAD: In a meeting presided over by the Planning Commission’s deputy chairman, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved four development schemes, having an estimated cost of about Rs126 billion.
The CDWP approved two projects worth Rs9.4 billion and recommended two other projects, to be funded by the World Bank, worth Rs116.4 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for formal approval.
A project titled “Disaster Climate Resilience Improvement Project AJK” worth Rs3.63 billion was approved by the CDWP.
The project is aimed to ensure multi-hazard resilience built into the design of all flood emergency reconstruction projects, to enhance the efficiency of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). This will help the state cope with disasters in an effective manner.
The second project cleared by the authority is titled “Hiring of Planning Consultants and Management Support Consultants for Energy Sector Development and Institutional Strengthening under the World Bank Assisted KP Hydropower & Renewable Energy Development Program” worth Rs5775 million.
Under this project, plans, feasibility studies/ design studies will be conducted and prepared through Planning Consultants, Institutional Strengthening through Management Support Consultants, and capacity building of PEDO/Energy & Power Department KP.
The projects funded by the World Bank referred to ECNEC includes the construction of a 157MW Madian Hydropower Project in Swat district, worth Rs79.798 billion, and 88MW Gabral Kalam Hydropower Project in KP, worth Rs36.555 billion, under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hydropower & Renewable Energy Development Programme.
The projects will generate 767.59GWh of affordable energy and 339.19 GWh of cheap and clean energy annually.
