ISLAMABAD: In a meeting chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved seven development projects worth Rs12.23 billion presented in the meeting.
Furthermore, five projects worth Rs158.23 billion were referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval.
The CDWP approved an energy project costing Rs1.3 billion, connecting the 660-megawatt Lucky Electric coal-fired power plant at Port Qasim to the national grid system and allowing to transmit electricity to upcountry load centres. A 500-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line will be constructed with respect to this.
Furthermore, the participants were briefed on two projects worth Rs1.4 billion related to higher education. The projects approved included the construction of National Centre of Industrial Biotechnology worth Rs1.4 billion at PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, to manufacture bio-products by utilising synthetic biology and metabolic engineering technology. The second project approved by the meeting was the establishment of ‘Smart University Transformation Through Smart Classrooms (Phase-I)’ worth Rs2.3 billion.
The Pak University of Engineering and Emerging Technology costing around Rs3.2 billion was approved in the meeting under the science and technology sector.
A water project worth Rs2.5 billion to increase the storage capacity in the area of Tanda Dam district, Kohat was also approved in the meeting.
Various projects under transportation and communications were also discussed and approved by the CDWP, which included the construction of a 54k m-long and four-metre wide single road from Nagar Sharif to Suntsar in Gwadar worth Rs1.256 billion
Along with the senior officials of federal and provincial governments, Planning Secretary Zafar Hasan attended the meeting.
