ISLAMABAD: To accommodate the growing traffic of the capital, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to construct five interchanges in the city.
The decision was reached keeping in view the growing needs of space for motorists, and the necessity to expand and extend the road infrastructure in the capital. The necessity was also made apparent by the congestion in the city.
According to a hand-out issued by the CDA, instructions for the preparation of PC-1 of these projects within two weeks have been issued. CDA aims to take up these projects for execution as soon as possible.
It is speculated that the execution of these projects will see the traffic demands of the capital met for the coming decades. These interchanges are planned at 7th Avenue Kashmir Highway, 10th Avenue Kashmir Highway, 11th Avenue Kashmir Highway and 12th Avenue Kashmir Highway, and a single interchange at 9th Avenue Khayaban-e-Iqbal. The construction of these interchanges will see the northern and southern sides of the city connected without any interruptions.
The PC-1s are likely to be completed within two weeks and will then be presented before the CDA-DWP for approval. On approval, Federal Government would be requested for funding of these projects under PSDP grant.
