Islamabad: In a significant development, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), in collaboration with Islamabad Police, has launched a decisive operation against the land mafia in Mirabeeri (Chontra). During this operation, a confrontation erupted as the land mafia opened fire and pelted stones at CDA officials and Islamabad Police personnel, resulting in injuries.
The CDA’s relentless pursuit of the land mafia continues with this operation, and the district administration and Islamabad Police have extended their full support to combat this criminal activity.
Moreover, the CDA’s enforcement, land, and rehabilitation departments have actively contributed to the operation, working in conjunction with Islamabad’s administrative authorities. The operation commenced with the demolition of five illegal structures, at which point troublemakers resorted to gunfire, causing an innocent civilian to sustain an injury.
It’s important to highlight that prior negotiations had taken place with legitimate affected parties who had occupied properties constructed after 2004. These negotiations resulted in today’s operation. During its initiation, outsiders took up arms in support of the genuine affected parties, leading to a violent clash with law enforcement.
Additionally, Mirabeeri (Chontra) received a land award in 1969, and compensation arrangements for alternative affected parties for acquired lands have been successfully resolved. According to the existing 1985 layout of Sihala Park, there were initially 30 houses.
However, by 2004, when the CDA earmarked the land for further development, the number had surged to 342 houses. Presently, approximately 15 to 20 families are grappling with the status of being local and genuinely affected parties, while the remaining 80% are non-locals. These non-locals have either legally acquired CDA-acquired land or are renting houses from local residents.
