The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is actively working to construct bicycle lanes along highways in various sectors and areas of Islamabad, aiming to promote a bicycle-friendly culture in the city.
CDA officials highlighted that the organization’s top priorities include reducing environmental pollution in Islamabad and creating a healthy environment for its residents.
As part of the CDA Bicycle Lab Project (BLP), a 374 km long cycling track will be built in different areas and sectors of Islamabad over 18 months, at a cost of 2.4 billion rupees.
The cycling track will be constructed on highways connected to the Purple Line Metro Bus project, such as Khayaban Iqbal, Sector G-6, G-7, G-8, Green Double Lane, Jinnah Avenue, and Red Double Line, enabling metro bus passengers to utilize the cycling track. Additionally, the project aims to connect every sector of Islamabad with a cycling track.
Furthermore, 150 parking stands will be constructed under the BLP, allowing citizens to benefit from cheap rental bikes. Each stand will accommodate more than 40 electronic bikes, as part of the plan to phase out petrol-powered bikes.
The project also includes provisions for proper lighting, security, and other necessary facilities. The inauguration ceremony of the BLP is scheduled to take place soon, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the chief guest.
