ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) announced that a survey is to be conducted of all highrise buildings in Islamabad to assess any damage to the buildings that may have been incurred.
The announcement by CDA Chairman, Noor Ul Amin Mengal, comes after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Pakistan on Tuesday night.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake’s epicentre was the Hindu Kush region which left many of the buildings in Islamabad at risk. Several buildings experienced some kind of damage or cracks.
As a result, the chairman of CDA issued strict orders to conduct a survey of all buildings in Islamabad to detect any possible damage. The responsibility of identifying all the affected buildings in the city, particularly those in sector E-11, has been assigned to the Building Control Directorate of CDA.
“All the damaged buildings should be identified, especially those in sector E-11,” said Chairman CDA Noor Ul Amin Mengal.
According to the details, the survey of buildings is to be started immediately and the survey report must be submitted within 24 hours.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon reassured the people of Islamabad that yesterday’s earthquake did not cause any significant damage. However, there were reports of cracks in the multi-storey buildings in sector E-11.
In response, teams of the district administration, accompanied by structural engineers, visited the buildings to conduct full inspections.
“Full inspection of Khudadad Heights and other buildings was done,” added Irfan Nawaz Memon.
