ISLAMABAD: As per the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) approved an amount of Rs54 billion, generated recently, for the restoration and rehabilitation of ‘Islamabad the Beautiful’.
For this purpose, two officers at a director-general level have been deputed by the authority to address the pertaining issues.
The officers will be answerable to Member Finance and Member Engineering of the apex authority responsible for development.
Earlier this week, the charge of four directorates, including environment wings, including urban, regional and parks, the Directorate of Sanitation and City Sewerage and the Directorate of Water, bulk water supply and water and sewerage development, and the Directorate of Engineering, including the Machinery Pool Organisation (MPO), streetlights and market roads and maintenance, was placed under CDA.
While briefing on the matter, CDA Spokesperson Mazhar Hussain informed that Mr Naveed Tareen has been appointed as the director-general environment to resolve issues related to parks, horticulture, and sanitation.
Member Engineering Ayaz Khan has been tasked to overlook the repair work of streetlights and the carpeting of roads.
In addition, the respective officials also formed special sanitation teams to clean markets, sectors and open spaces.
Earlier, three new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) were approved by the Board of Approvals (BOA) for SEZs, in the sixth meeting of the board presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The announced SEZs are National Science & Technology Park, Islamabad, JW-SEZ China-Pakistan SEZ Raiwind in Punjab, and Dhabeji SEZ in Sindh.
Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Chairman of Board of Investment Atif Bokhari and other federal and relevant provincial officials attended the meeting.
