Anti-encroachment drive continues in Karachi

Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment department, on the directives of Supreme Court (SC) will start its operation against encroachments by welfare organizations established on the footpaths along roads.

In a letter written by KMC to the deputy commissioner of District Central, about the removal of structures, the operation will commence from District Central’s Liaquatabad area and continue for two days. This phase of the anti-encroachment drive will target on encroachments by the welfare organziations by clearing out all footpaths on main roads including Sharea Pakistan, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Shaheed-e-Millat and University Road.

All welfare organizations have been informed prior to the operation and thus they have voluntarily started clearing the footpaths from stalls, cabins and offices.

According to senior director of the KMC’s anti-encroachment department, Bashir Siddiqui, this anti-encroachment is in continuation of a crackdown in which several illegal shops and their boards protruding outside on footpaths have already been demolished throughout the city.
