The board was established on March 30, 1968, following an ordinance passed by the Government of West Pakistan during a meeting of the Assembly of Pakistan on May 24. At first, the Camp Office of the board operated from the Government Central Training College Lahore, but it was later shifted to Multan in mid-June. Initially, the Multan Board encompassed Quetta, Kallat, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

However, in 1968, Quetta and Kallat started operating separately, and, in 1978, the Bahawalpur Board was established as a separate entity. Subsequently, in 1982, the Dera Ghazi Khan Board was separated from the Multan Board as well. Currently, the board is operational in every district.
