Col. (Ret) Prof. M.A. Cheema was named Project Director of MIC by Chief Minister Elahi to oversee the project. Having founded the Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore, Professor Cheema is a pioneer in cardiac surgery in Pakistan.
After the project was finished, Prof. M.A. Cheema left her position. As the institute’s first Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Raza Gardezi, a renowned cardiologist from the Gardezi family of Multan, took on the post.
Under Prof. Gardezi’s direction, MIC accomplished several firsts. Remarkably, a modular operating room suite was built, even though Punjab’s medical community was first dubious about its advantages.
The current Executive Director of CPEIC is Professor Dr. Muhammad Mujtaba Ali Siddiqui, who succeeded Professors Rana Altaf Ahmed and Syed Ali Raza Gardezi.
Adults and patients with congenital heart disease can receive comprehensive cardiology and cardiac surgery services at the CPE Institute of Cardiology Multan, a tertiary care facility. It has one of Pakistan’s largest modular operating room suites, with five operating rooms in this building, each with its own prep and scrub space. Construction was completed in 2009, and the first surgery was conducted in the new facility that same month.
Following surgery or other treatments, critical care is provided to patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), which may accommodate up to 20 beds.
