The Makran Coastal Highway is home to some beautiful beaches in Balochistan, most notably Kund Malir. This undiscovered beach is a very suitable option for picnickers and beach lovers due to its proximity to Karachi.
Graana.com gives an overview of the beach below if you are planning to pay a visit soon. The blog includes the best time to visit, route guide, FAQs and much more.
People usually prefer to visit beaches in the summer, but since Kund Malir has a high tide season from June to August, it is best to go there during the low tide period from October to February. It is a much safer time to visit the beach.
Another excellent incentive to travel to Balochistan during this season is that the winters are generally comfortable or only slightly chilly. It will make the trip pleasant but be sure to still dress warmly. At the height of the winter, Hingol National Park’s nights can be extremely chilly.
Kund Malir is directly adjacent to the Makran Coastal Highway, which continues to Pasni, Ormara, and Gwadar. While the road leading to Kund Malir goes through a rocky and desolate terrain, the beach is also a part of the Hingol National Park.
The route starts from the area of Karachi’s S.I.T.E., from where the M-10 or Karachi Northern Bypass will take you to the city’s outskirts. You can use the Lyari Expressway to get to the Northern Bypass. In Balochistan, at the toll booth before Hub, the M-10 joins into the N25.
Get on the N25, and then keep travelling ahead when you pass Winder. You will get to the Zero Point, the beginning of the N10 or Makran Coastal Highway. The fine sand and crystal-clear waters of Kund Malir will be waiting for you there; the route leads directly to Hingol National Park.
The trip to Kund Malir takes about 4 hours at maximum, but if you’re travelling with children, it is suggested to stop for a short break somewhere close to Winder. Small ‘dhabas’ that offer snacks and beverages have been built alongside the road.
Kund Malir was formerly just a deserted beach but, in recent years, its popularity led to the development of both private and public resorts, where visitors can spend the night. Here are some activities you can do at Kund Malir beach once you get there:
Camping at this beach is a popular weekend retreat for many people. You can either bring your tent or hire any one of the many tour companies that will drive you to your destination in an AC van and assist you in setting up your camp with a bonfire and barbecue dinner.
Even though there may not be many chances to view the stars if you live in the City of Lights, you won’t be facing any such issue in Kund Malir. The stretch of the night sky over the beach is a magnificent view.
You can also go swimming in Kund Malir’s clear waters. However, it is important to note that there are no huts, rentals, or changing rooms on the beach itself unless you have reserved a room in a nearby resort.
If you plan to stay an extra night here, you can also visit Hingol National Park. A short drive from Kund Malir on the N10 will take you to the Princess of Hope and the Sphinx, both of which are well-known tourist destinations.
Various tour agencies offer different kinds of packages but, regardless of which one you select, almost all travel agencies provide similar, basic services, including breakfast, lunch, photography and a first aid kit at hand.
The season, however, can have an impact on the cost of these packages. For instance, most people prefer to visit Kund Malir at night during the hot summer months so they will be looking for packages for bonfire dinners, overnight stays etc.
Around Rs. 3,000 is required for standard packages, although some companies may charge more depending on the additional services they provide. The prices also change depending on how long you stay and where else you are planning to go.
If you’re looking for pristine beaches nearby, travelling to Kund Malir from Karachi can be a great option. However, it is required that you bring a garbage bag for your trash and leave the beach unpolluted in good condition when you leave so that the area’s beauty can be preserved for future visitors.
