In this blog, Graana.com provides all the information you need to know about this university.
The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) is a public university located in the centre of Peshawar. It was established in 1980 as a campus of UET Lahore, and it became an independent university in 1990. Since then, it has been expanding its academic programs, research facilities, etc., over the years.
Initially, the university offered only undergraduate programs in engineering, but when it became an independent university, it started offering graduate programs. Since then, it has been continuously expanding its academic programs and research facilities to become one of the top engineering universities in Pakistan.
UET Peshawar offers various undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering and related fields. It has seven faculties, including the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The university offers the following undergraduate programs:
This program covers a wide range of topics, including circuits and systems, signal processing, power systems, and electronics.
This covers topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
The program covers topics such as structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources engineering, and geotechnical engineering.
It is a rapidly growing field that covers topics such as computer networks, computer architecture, embedded systems, and software engineering.
It is a unique field that covers topics such as production planning and control, quality engineering, optimisation, and supply chain management.
Mechatronics engineering is a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. The program covers topics such as robotics, control systems, and artificial intelligence.
Agricultural engineering is a specialised field that covers topics such as irrigation and drainage engineering, farm machinery, and food engineering.
UET Peshawar offers the following graduate programs:
This program is designed for students who want to specialise in electrical engineering. It covers power electronics, digital signal processing, and control systems.
This program covers topics such as advanced materials, biomechanics, and computational mechanics.
This covers advanced topics such as structural analysis, earthquake engineering, and geotechnical engineering.
The program covers topics like artificial intelligence, distributed computing, and database systems.
Topics like stochastic models, quality control, and optimisation are covered in this program.
The university also offers Ph.D. programs in various fields, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and information technology, and industrial engineering.
There are different campuses of UET Peshawar that are listed below.
This campus is located on the city’s outskirts, covering an area of 200 acres. It has state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a well-stocked library, engineering labs, computer labs, and classrooms with multimedia facilities. The campus also has a sports complex, an auditorium, and a mosque.
This is located in the scenic city of Abbottabad, covering an area of 100 acres. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in various engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering. The campus has a spacious library, computer labs, engineering labs, and classrooms with multimedia facilities. It also has a sports complex and a mosque.
The Bannu Campus is in the historic city of Bannu, known for its rich cultural heritage. The campus covers an area of 200 acres and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in civil, electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering. The campus features a library, well-equipped labs, and classrooms with multimedia facilities.
The campus in Kohat covers an area of 50 acres and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in civil, electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering. It provides a range of facilities to its students, including well-equipped classrooms, labs, a library and more.
UET Peshawar is known for its exceptional research facilities, which include state-of-the-art laboratories, research centres, and libraries. The research centres are funded by government agencies and the HEC. One of these is the Earthquake Engineering Centre (EEC), which was established in 2002 with the objective of better understanding seismic risks in Pakistan and improving the seismic resistance of structures in high-risk areas.
Following the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, the EEC provided valuable guidance to the government and non-government organisations involved in reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Another research centre is the National Institute of Urban Infrastructure Planning (NIUIP), which aims to address urban decay and improve urban infrastructure in Pakistan. NIUIP’s initial research focuses on infrastructure finance and planning, urban transportation planning, urban environment and energy planning, water supply and sanitation, solid waste management, spatial modelling, and GIS.
The Centre of Intelligent Systems & Networks Research (CISNR) conducts research primarily on smart grids and intelligent transportation systems using wireless sensor networks and IoT devices. It has partnerships with several national and international organisations.
The U.S.-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E) is a major energy research project funded by USAID in Pakistan. It is a partnership between Arizona State University and two leading Pakistani universities, NUST and UET Peshawar. Under the USPCAS-E, UET Peshawar conducts sustainable energy research, producing the next generation of technologies in the field of applied energy research.
The Scalable Transmission of Adaptive Multimedia based on P2P (STAMP) Centre conducts research on P2P video transmission and data communication. STAMP is an open-source modular P2P streaming system optimised for networking conditions in Pakistan, providing scalability in accommodating any number of users and simultaneous transmission of different video quality levels.
The university also features a range of extracurricular activities, clubs, and events. The campus comes with modern facilities, including sports facilities, a gymnasium, and a swimming pool. The university also has a cafeteria, bookstore, and health centre.
The admission process here is highly competitive. Students are required to appear in an entrance test and meet the minimum eligibility criteria. The university also offers scholarships and financial assistance to eligible students.
